Hi, I’m Lisa!
I’m a Martha Beck Certified Life Coach.
Today, I feel excited about my life—and I live by my own rules.
I was influenced by my mother, who resisted the norms of the 1950s.
She stayed single until her late 30s, and focused on her career as a fashion designer—even after I was born. Like my mother, I make a point not to let others’ expectations inhibit me from doing what I love and speaking my truth.
I spent my early adulthood in fashion—the same field as my mother—and was a successful textile designer. I loved design, colors, and the creative process; I traveled extensively, worked hard and had a vibrant social life and career. Friends of mine thought I was having an exciting life. But I wasn’t always so sure that I was.
Until I was 35, I was single and never thought I would meet the right guy.
He was 12 years younger than me—which seemed crazy and contrary to every scenario I had imagined! Many people had their doubts about us, but I was not going to let our age difference get in the way of how I felt. Of course, we did have some good laughs about it…while I was sneaking into bars and listening to The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, he was blowing out the candles on his 5th birthday cake.
Soon after getting married, we had two daughters. Cultivating a loving family of my own was a huge turning point in my life.
My life has not been without some really difficult struggles. I have been through the fire—probably just like you—and have come out the other end. I dealt with the illness and deaths of my parents, breast cancer at age 47, and infidelity in my marriage.
It was when I confronted the reality of my husband’s infidelity that I saw that we both had issues to work on, and that we had neglected in different ways to “tend the fire” of our relationship.
Life Coaching helped me change many things in my life—from my marriage to my friendships to my career, and beyond.
I realized that I had a lot more resilience than I ever thought, and I discovered my determination to embrace who I was and where I was in my life.
Through life coaching, I learned to see my part in the shortcomings in my marriage, and to forgive and move forward with my husband. And, with the help of my coach, I was able to reconnect with my imagination and soul and I began to create exactly what I wanted my life to be like.
With firm guidance from my coach, I began to recognize that my thoughts and my self-limiting beliefs were keeping me stuck in my “victim story” and preventing me from moving ahead in my life.
This is a key aspect of life coaching—and something that has been an incredibly powerful thing I have learned from working with a life coach. This simple reality is essential to taking control of our lives, tapping into what we really want and making the changes necessary to turn our dreams into a reality. When I started focusing on how I planned to “design” my life and ignite my power, I ended up finding a new career as a life coach myself!
